How we work

The information problem, and what we do about it

A garage door hides almost everything that matters about it. The cable drum sits at the top corner, the bearing plate is behind the spring, and the inside of a torsion spring gives away nothing until it snaps. You are standing on the driveway with no way to check any of it, which is why so many homeowners in this trade end up paying for parts nobody has shown them. Writing “trusted” on a website does not fix that.

What does fix it, at least partly, is writing down what we found — all 21 points, in the same order every time, including the items that were fine. You keep that list. You can get a second quote against it. We would rather be the people who handed it to you.

Two of those checks — the balance test and the safety reversal test — take no tools and about a minute each. We will show you how to run them yourself, because a customer who can check their own door is a customer who calls when something is actually wrong.

Straight answers

What we will not do

  • We do not do roofing, siding or concrete. When a garage problem turns out to be a roof or foundation problem, we say so instead of selling you door work.
  • We do not replace a door that can be repaired. If a single panel or a single spring fixes it, that is what we quote.
  • We do not charge for the safety inspection, and we do not make booking work a condition of getting the report.

Local conditions

Why garage doors fail in Greater Cincinnati

Cincinnati sits in the Ohio River valley, which means high summer humidity and a winter that crosses the freezing point over and over rather than staying cold. January lows here average in the mid-20s Fahrenheit. Every one of those swings expands and contracts steel, and it is the repeated cycling — not the cold itself — that work-hardens torsion springs and cracks the grease in old rollers until they seize.

Road salt is the second half of the problem. Salt spray comes off the tires and into the garage all winter, and it settles on exactly the parts that sit lowest: the bottom section, the bottom brackets, the rollers and the track. Rust on a bottom bracket is not cosmetic — that bracket is under full spring tension, and it is the single most common part we find failing on cars-in-the-driveway calls.

The third factor is the hills. Cincinnati is built on them, and a large share of driveways here run downhill into the garage. Water and grit wash toward the door instead of away from it, which rots wooden jambs on older detached garages and packs debris into the bottom track where it throws the door off alignment.

You will not find a “500 five-star reviews” or “50,000 jobs completed” claim on this site. Numbers like that are checkable in about four seconds, and the moment a customer checks one and finds nothing behind it, everything else on the page becomes suspect. The figures above are the ones we can point at.
